Illustrations and visual storytelling
My name is Noora Katto and I’m a Finnish illustrator and graphic designer based in Tampere.
Welcome and thanks for visiting my website!
Majority of my work has been around children’s culture, mainly doing illustrations (or providing design services) for children’s and youth literature, school and study materials, and various youth-related initiatives.
My career began around 2008 and since then I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients, from small organizations and local agencies to governmental bodies and large international entities. Primarily my work has been in collaboration with leading Finnish publishers.
My work is often character-driven, based around small everyday observations, emotional moments, and interesting details. I also try to include some rougher edges as well. Within reason of course. While I often concentrate on keeping younger readers engaged and entertained, I love throwing in things that resonate with adults as well, so that that there’s always something for readers of all ages. I am particularly drawn to projects and people that aim to make the world a more positive place than it was yesterday.
While my months are based around working on variety of projects, I have two ongoing children’s book series: Viisi Villiä Virtasta (written by Anneli Kanto), which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, and Hirveä-series (written by Vuokko Hurme) where the third book just released in 2026.
I also run my own micro company slash design studio, Nooma Creative, where I get to play around with product design, be it art prints or other illustrated products, stationery, jewelry or anything else I might come up with. From time to time I take out my goods and books to various events and occasionally I visit schools or libraries to showcase and talk about what working as an illustrator is like.
At the moment, my schedule is pretty much full for 2026, but be that as it may, I’m always interested in creative projects so feel free to drop me a line!
